| John Ham (Bristol, 1948). I
originally trained at Middlesborough College of Art (1966-69)
as a sculptor although turned to painting whilst at
Durham University (1970-72). Resident in Lewes, East
Sussex, I have been a teacher in special education for
the past twenty years. During this time I continued to
paint and to produce the occasional 3D object. I have
gradually moved from abstract work to a more figurative
base. I am particularly interested in the quality and
finish as well as content of painting, and have explored
many mediums. The Kiss, which provided an opportunity to build an object of significant size of engineering quality, marked my return to sculpture. Advances in technology are providing exciting new prospects in both materials and construction, which I am attempting to explore. I feel that in many ways the problems I struggled to overcome in paint have found their solution in three dimensions. |
